Post Traumatic Slavery Disorder
Dr. Omar Reid, Sekou Mims and Larry Higginbottom are co-authors of a collective work entitled PTSlaveryD (Post Traumatic Slavery Disorder). The three were honored by Simmons Graduate School of Social Work in April 2003. What they call PTSlaveryD has a direct relationship with post-traumatic stress disorder and the resulting drug abuse, broken families, crime, and low educational attainment in segments of the black community which are all due to slavery and ongoing systemic racism.
